In the August 2012 issue of Money Magazine, McKinney ranked No. 2 on the best places to live in America. McKinney is the only Texas city in the top 10. Money editors and writers look at employment, schools, crime and safety and overall quality of life aspects to come up with the list. When writers visited McKinney, they ranked the city highly based on beautiful natural parks and open spaces, affordable and diverse housing, plenty of jobs and a vibrant downtown that offers lots to do for residents.
“Ranking among the very best places to live in the country is a distinction we greatly value, especially when you consider how rare it is for a city to consistently rank in the top 15 for several consecutive issues on the Best Places to Live list. McKinney is a great place to live, arguably the best. Our community has a consistently high quality of life for our residents, no matter how we grow and change. It’s amazing what we have in our city, and it’s just going to get better,” said McKinney Mayor Brian Loughmiller. “To move from No. 5 to No. 2 is an honor for our community, and we thank Money Magazine for the recognition.”
The nation continues to recognize McKinney as a stand-out community. Money Magazine ranks McKinney No. 2 on their list of the Best Places to Live in American in 2012. Factors considered included employment, schools, crime and safety, as well as overall quality of life aspects including a feeling of community pride. This adds to the accolades already received from Forbes, Best Life Magazine, CNN Money and more.
While many factors combine to make McKinney a truly special place in America, it is the people in McKinney who bring these vibrant qualities to life. That community spirit is embodied in a friendly, safe and inviting city that holds strong ties to its roots and history while enjoying rapid economic development and continually adding new amenities that compliment and expand our unique quality of life.
The elements that established McKinney as unique from its very beginnings are the same that continue to attract residents, visitors and businesses to our community today.
